The Light in the Piazza is an opera-crossover musical about a young woman named Clara Johnson, developmentally disabled due to an accident in childhood, meeting and falling in love with a young Italian man while on vacation. Her mother battles between honoring her daughter’s newfound happiness, and protecting her from a world built to hurt her.

Carolina Sullivan stars as Clara Johnson in the February 2022 production by Miami University Opera Theatre.
